So you’re flat out like a lizard drinking... You haven’t got time to scratch yourself... Your family is screaming they haven’t seen you since Christmas dinner... You’re working 70 hours a week (and that’s on a quiet week.)
(Hard question from your coach coming up.. get ready.)
What are you going to do about it?
(Don’t worry, many of us are in exactly the same boat.. Bookkeeping, marketing, admin, filing, wordprocessing.. and solving customers problems.. all seem to bog us down instead of doing the work that makes us the money.. It's the boat many of us in small and medium sized businesses are in.)
We’re too busy to stop and think how we can change course.
‘Yet, if you’re going to end up in a different place, you have to be prepared to change course’, a mentor of mine once told me.
As someone once said.. ‘If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve alway’s got.’
So if you want a different result, if you want to be less busy but more effective, you’ll have to do something different
(Noooooo I hear your comfort zone screaming back at me.
Yesssssss that coach inside of you screams back. )
So what can you do about it??
3 things–.
- WORK OUT WHAT MAKES YOU MORE MONEY
- YOU DO THAT AND
- DELEGATE THE REST
It’s that simple. If you do more of what makes you the money, and less of what doesn't make you the money, you'll make more money.
How??
Follow the 8 Steps outlined below - if you're serious.
EIGHT STEPS TO EFFECTIVE DELEGATIONStep 1. Think of a job that doesn't MAKE you money (that has to be done like bookkeeping, paperwork, filing etc)..–then DELEGATE IT. If you haven't got someone to delegate it to...FIND THEM.
Step 2. If you can't afford someone.. Work out the cost of your time doing what you're doing (bookkeeping, paperwork, filing etc) Then ask yourself, 'How much would it cost me to get someone to do this?' AND 'What else could I be doing to generate twice or three times that much if I wasn't doing this annoying job?'.
The answer should convince you to GET ON WITH FINDING SOMEONE. Don't reject this suggestion before you spend at least 48 hours pondering it.
Step 3. Write up your standards/expectations, the results you want that person to achieve (and by when.)
Step 4. Write up a checklist of the steps to follow in the task to get those results.
Step 5. Demonstrate how you want it done to the person you'll delegate to.
Step 6. Watch and supervise them doing the task.
Step 7. Monitor and correct - COACH SUPPORTIVELY.
Step 8. Celebrate their success.
REMEMBER: They may not do it as well as you the first few times - but at least you didn't have to do it.
If you do more of what makes you the money, and less of what doesn't make you the money, you'll make more money.
The next step to making even more money is to..
Delegate doing the thing that makes you the money–. Then you're really in the money–. And that's what its all about.. Right??
